L’Ampolla, el Portet and Platgetes have been awarded with the Blue Flag for another year. Together with the staff responsible for the beaches and the environment and the lifeguards, the mayor Carlos Linares and the councillor Nieves Rodríguez hoisted the Blue Flag.

The Blue Flag is awarded yearly by the FEE (Foundation for environmental education) to beaches which comply with a certain standard of environmental quality. To be selected it is indispensable to comply with regulations in four different areas: quality of sea water, environmental information and education, environmental management, security and services as well as facilities.

46 municipalities of the Valencian Community have presented their beaches and 45 have achieved the award which represents 21% of all flags awarded to Spain. Alicante Province received 78 flags and is the region with the highest number of Blue Flags.
