You don’t need to book an excursion to enjoy Moraira. Some of its most rewarding experiences are simple: spotting birds beside the beach, discovering the stories behind the coastline or following the waterfront with your camera.

The activities below have no admission charge. Parking, transport, refreshments and equipment hire may still cost extra.

1. Discover Moraira’s Fishing Heritage

For a different way to explore the centre, follow Moraira: Mar y Pesca, the official self-guided maritime heritage itinerary. This short urban route is approximately 790 metres long, making it an option for visitors who want some local history without a lengthy hike.

Use the official maritime route to guide your visit and discover the town through its relationship with the sea. It makes a useful starting point before exploring the surrounding streets at your own pace.

2. Watch Wildlife at the Senillar Wetland

Beside L’Ampolla Beach, Marjal del Senillar offers a quieter alternative to the seafront. This small wetland is a wildlife reserve, with lagoons, reeds and coastal vegetation.

Look for ducks and moorhens from the public areas around its edge. For children, turn the visit into a simple nature challenge: how many different birds, plants or insects can they spot? Keep your distance from wildlife and leave the water undisturbed; swimming and fishing are prohibited in the reserve.

Combine your visit with L’Ampolla Beach.

3. Explore Moraira’s Geological Story

Moraira’s coastline has more to discover than beaches. The Ruta Geológica de Moraira introduces features including fossil dunes, coastal faults and evidence of ancient seas.

Use the geology website and map to choose a location that interests you. Reading about the rocks before you visit can turn an ordinary coastal stroll into a small outdoor discovery session. Observe formations where access is permitted and leave rocks and fossils in place.

4. Enjoy a Beach Day With Your Own Supplies

Bring a towel, drinking water and a picnic, and you can enjoy Moraira’s beaches without renting a sunbed or buying refreshments.

Choose L’Ampolla for a beach close to town, El Portet for its scenic bay, or Les Platgetes for a mixture of sandy and rocky shoreline. Swimming depends on conditions, so follow the beach flags and local instructions.

Our Moraira Beaches Guide will help you choose between them.

5. Browse the Friday Market

You can enjoy market day without buying anything. Wander between the stalls, take in the colours and aromas, and see the range of produce and everyday goods on offer.

It’s an opportunity to practise a little Spanish or get ideas for ingredients to cook during your stay. Go with time to browse rather than treating it as a quick shopping stop.

See our Moraira and Teulada Weekly Markets guide for visitor information.

6. Discover the Landscape at Les Sorts

For a change from sea views, visit the Mirador de les Sorts and look across the agricultural valley.

Les Sorts is a protected landscape whose character comes from its cultivated terraces, valley floor and surrounding hills. It offers a glimpse of the countryside behind the resort and makes a rewarding stop for sketching or landscape photography. Use public access routes and respect cultivated land.

7. Follow the Coastal Viewpoints Route

The official Ruta de los Miradores del Litoral provides another way to explore Moraira’s coastal scenery. Tourism information lists the route at approximately 4.28 kilometres, with a walking time of around 1 hour 15 minutes.

Allow longer if you want to stop for photographs. Consult the official route information before setting out, and choose a shorter section if that suits your group better.

Find more options in our Walking Guide.

8. Create Your Own Waterfront Photography Trail

Take your phone or camera and set yourself a challenge: capture five different sides of Moraira.

You could photograph the castle exterior, reflections on the water, a detail in the town’s streets, the rocky shoreline and an evening seascape. Alternatively, bring a sketchbook and spend time drawing one scene.

This is an easy activity to fit around other plans, with no equipment needed beyond what you already have. Stay in public areas around the waterfront and harbour.

9. Walk to Cap d’Or

For a more active outing, follow the walking route towards Torre del Cap d’Or above El Portet. The reward is the elevated coastal scenery and the historic watchtower.

This is a rocky hillside walk, so wear suitable shoes, carry water and allow enough daylight for your return. It requires more preparation than a stroll through town.

See our Cap d’Or Walk guide for the starting point, terrain and route details.

10. Look for Free Public Celebrations

Depending on when you visit, local fiestas may offer public parades, street performances or other activities that can be watched without buying a ticket.

Check the current programme carefully: meals, concerts and organised activities can have separate charges. Plan around events explicitly advertised as free or open to the public.

Browse our What’s On Guide and Teulada-Moraira Fiesta Guide for current announcements.

Planning a Free Day Out

Choose activities close together to reduce transport costs. The town centre, waterfront, Senillar wetland and L’Ampolla can be combined into a relaxed outing, while the hillside walks need more time and preparation.
