The Teulada - Moraira Lions Club

Lions Clubs International is the largest voluntary Service organisation in the world, with more than 1.3 million members in 45,000 clubs in 208 countries around the world. In Spain there are more than 100 clubs with 3000 members. Lions are dedicated to effective, selfless community service – ordinary people who do amazing things.

The Teulada/Moraira Lions Club was formed in 1994 and since then has grown to a membership of around 30 men and women who give their time to raise money for those in need. Some of the money raised goes to Lions programmes overseas – special collections in Moraira market in January  2010 meant we were able to send €2500 to help rebuild infrastructure in Haiti – but the vast majority of money raised goes back to the local community, providing medical equipment such as defibrillators to local health centres, wheelchairs and a hoist to MABS, a local cancer support charity.  We support EMAUS children’s homes and women and children at risk from domestic violence. We work closely with local social services and CARITAS, and give food and clothing to the neediest families that they identify.

We have many fundraising events throughout the year, from fashion shows, Christmas raffles, quiz nights and open air concerts on the Moraira Seafront during the summer. Every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month we have a bookstall selling good quality English language paperback books for €1. Unlike many charities, all of the money raised from our fundraising events goes to pay for Lions Projects.  None of the money we raise is spend on administrative costs.

Please visit our website at http://www.tmlions.com/ to learn more about what we do, and how we go about doing it. If you want to give your time and support your local community, and are interested in becoming a Lion, please contact us at any of our events or through the website.
