Cala Moraig to Cala Llebeig Walk: Benitachell’s Route of the Cliffs

Route Information

• Location: El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, also known as Benitachell.
• Route: Part of the SL-CV 50.
• Distance: Approximately 2km one way, or 4km returning along the same path.
• Walking time: Approximately one hour each way, excluding breaks.
• Difficulty: Medium in the official route leaflet.
• Elevation: The leaflet lists a 76.2m altitude difference, rather than a cumulative ascent figure.

The published route finishes at Cala Llebeig, so its distance includes the descent to the cove. Walking from your parking space or adding a visit to Cala Moraig Beach will increase the total. 

Where the Walk Starts

The official leaflet places the trailhead on the road descending towards Cala Moraig, with the route taking the passage to the right for approximately 100 metres.

Find the signed Ruta de los Acantilados / SL-CV 50 entrance and check it against the official map before setting off. The walk starts above Cala Moraig; you do not need to descend to Moraig Beach first. 

Sea Views and Historic Shelters

The path runs beneath the cliffs, passing dry-stone shelters built against the rock. These were used by fishermen, farmers and smugglers, offering a glimpse of how people once worked along this coastline.

Allow time to enjoy the views without rushing towards the beach. Observe old structures from the marked path and avoid climbing on masonry or entering unstable openings.

The Descent to Cala Llebeig

The final approach to Cala Llebeig increases the difficulty of the walk, with a steeper descent from the coastal path. The same section must be climbed on your return. 

Take your time on loose or uneven ground. If the descent feels beyond your comfort or ability, turn back before committing to it. Do not assume that reaching the cove means the hardest part of the outing is over.

Is It Suitable for Children?

This is a hiking trail with exposed coastal sections, rather than a promenade stroll. It is unsuitable for pushchairs, and families should consider children’s walking experience, confidence and stamina before setting out.

Keep children close on narrow sections. Choose a shorter out-and-back walk if necessary, and avoid attempting the cove descent simply to complete the route.

Parking at Cala Moraig

The council’s parking system covers access to Cala Moraig, Cala Testos and the Route of the Cliffs.

The current official information lists:

• Regulated period: 1 April to 15 October, from 9am to 7pm.
• Visitor charge: €15 per vehicle for the day.
• Authorisation: Required when a vehicle remains in the controlled area for more than 20 minutes.
• Payment: Through calamoraig.es or the kiosk at the access point.

Check the council’s parking information before travelling for current conditions and exemptions. Parking authorisation does not guarantee that the walking route is open. 

Before You Set Out

Wear walking shoes with good grip and carry water, sun protection and a charged phone. Start early in hot weather, leave enough daylight for the return and avoid the route during strong winds, heavy rain or poor visibility.
